VENICE SHOES

The name Furlane speaks for itself. They are the traditional Venice shoes par excellence.

Furlane is the commonly used name and in the local dialect they are also called stafets, scarpets or scarpez. In other regions they are known as papusse, babbucce or veneziane. These are all names that indicate a typical handmade product from the North East of Italy. The idea was to recycle materials to create robust footwear to be worn on special occasions as well as every day. Bicycle tyres and coffee and hessian sacks were used for the soles of these slippers, whereas cloth was used for the upper shoe. Each shoe is individually hand stitched, one by one.

From the mountain area of Carnia, they reached Venice where the practicality and originality of these Venice flats helped to spread their popularity. The first to wear these flats were the gondoliers, so as not to damage the fine lacquer of their gondolas. Then the ladies and gentlemen of Venice wore them for everyday use and who can blame them? They were extremely comfortable.

Today, this Italian version, which is similar in structure to espadrillas, are created using rich and fine fabrics selected by CRISTINAdiMILANO. Traditional techniques are used to create silk velvets dating back to bygone ages. The patterns have been handed down through the generations and are still woven on antique looms today using fine silk and cotton threads. These fabrics are created by artisans, who are true artists of colour and hues, thus creating fabrics using unique printing techniques. These handmade products provide us with an indescribable emotion for our sight and touch.

My CRISTINAdiMILANO shoes want to offer whoever wears them all the magic of these sensations and the pleasure and certainty of owning a unique piece, which is also part of the “Made in Italy” tradition. Practical, elegant and unique shoes perfect for every occasion, whether it is day or evening and known for exclusivity and style.
